The Lightmare 2021 Traineeship
Lightmare has been piloting major course improvements in both Queensland and Victoria during 2020. Our revamped 2021 Victorian program now includes:
Two Primary Employment Roles & Training Foci : Trainees choose coding or art as their focus and learn it to an intermediate level. All trainees learn the basics of both. All trainees learn design to an intermediate level.
Produce Their Own Personal Game Project : Trainees design their own idle casual game concept and create it. There is the potential of publication through Lightmare for the best projects.
Quality Assurance Training & Workload : All trainees will have structured testing schedules around patches for Infinity Heroes and other major projects.
Marketing & Social Media Training & Optional Workload : Trainees will be trained in industry best practice for promoting our products, creating authentic content and interacting with our players on Facebook, Instagram and Discord.
Lightmare’s School-based Traineeship Details
For the past 10 years, Lightmare Studios has partnered with a range of domestic and international entities to provide a unique and award-winning opportunity to high school students. This Traineeship kick-starts their career in the digital sphere whether they are New Media, Information Technology, Game Design, Animation, Programming or Art enthusiasts.
Trainees earn while they learn and grow their skills & portfolio, and they are prepared for the fast-approaching world of technology they will soon be the sought young professionals of.
The 6-month program runs through our training provider at Holmesglen, where they undertake training for a Certificate III in Information, Digital Media & Technology (IDMT), specializing in game development. Trainees learn multiple industry-standard programs and pieces of technology including 3D Maya, 3D Coat, zBrush, Photoshop, Unity and more. Assignment-based learning means no stressful tests, and the friendly environment and culture makes learning and working with your fellow students a fun and memorable experience.
Your online work shifts with Lightmare Studios will have you learning and working through Blender and Gamemaker, under industry veterans to work on fast-tracking your learning experience, and producing base assets for Lightmare. It’s also a chance to showcase your potential, and potentially be given additional tasks and work that would lead to implementation within one of our games, for the best and brightest students. Trainees are also given choice of workload based on available roles such as Junior Coder, Artist, Marketer or Tester.

Lightmare’s Victorian Diploma Program
Students looking to continue and accelerate their career in gaming can apply to be a part of the Lightmare Diploma program. After a successful traineeship placement with us, you can skip the Certificate IV requirement completely, and on the first year out of high school, go directly into a Diploma of Games Design at Holmesglen.
This opportunity is offered to students who completed their traineeship with us, but anyone with prior relevant experience, or the Certificate IV can apply to learn more. For more information, email vic@lightmare.com.au
